Script writing

This is the script that we needed to write out for our story, the script is not a hundred percent accurate, because I’m still practicing script writhing.

This isn’t the final script, there will be changes made later on

Game addiction

ACT I

Scene 1

The 15 year old boy sitting in his dark room, only playing online video games. He is home-schooled because he is self-conscious. Holding his mouse and keyboard and playing online gaming. His face glued to the screen, nothing can distract him. His skin white as snow, because he never leaves the house, he rarely sees the sun. His eyes two different colors, he doesn’t see it as unique but rather as a disgrace. His favorite game gender mmorpg.

Boy

So he was playing his games, and kept dying in the game, clicking harder and harder on his keyboard, frustrated he took his mouse and keyboard and threw it across the room, almost breaking it. He sat there hands over head in frustration. 5 seconds passed he stood up went to his lounge and sat on his couch, staring out of the window for about 10 seconds. Then he stood up went to the door and opened it up.

As he looked outside he realized that it doesn’t look bad outside, but soon after he slammed the door shut. And said ”that was a close one” he turned around and walked back to his computer.

As he walked to his computer a message popped up by one of his online friends saying that he needs to buy this new game that got realized today. He got excited because it was said to be one of the best mmorpg games ever made. He rushed to his room took his food money and went back to the door. He really didn’t want to go out, so he clenched his fists, closed his eyes and said ”I’m going to get that game”

Scene 3

Boy

He slowly opened the door, and went outside. His eyes where mildly closed because of how bright the sun was, he stood still looked around for a while, and went on his quest to buy the game he wanted so badly.

So he started to walk and because he played a lot of games he started to hallucinate and saw health and manna bars on top of people and his head. As he walked he approached a street and saw a traffic light pole, he saw it as a checkpoint. So as the light turned green for the traffic he started to walk across not looking at his surroundings. Cars came from left to right approaching him at top speed. At first he froze not knowing what to do, but then his gaming instincts came alive. So he started to dodge the cars, jumping from left to right, he avoided all of the cars, and in his mind he saw it as an achievement.

Scene 4

boy

The more he walks the more he sees the world as a game, what i mean by this is that the word turned pixelated in his eyes. He was starting to enjoy the outdoors because of this. as he walked the more he started to greet people more, he saw them as npc(none-player character)

He arrived at the game shop, opened up the door and went in. He went to the mmorpg section, saw the game and picked it up, the price was to high for the amount of money he had, so he thought to steel the game, and along with it leveling up his sneak ability. He put the game inside of his shirt and went out of the door. Then the alarms went off. He panicked and began to run. He looked back only to see the store workers following him, he saw a crowd and ran into the crowd. avoiding the store workers. sneak level increased he and achievement unlocked he saw above his head. and went n home.

Scene 5

boy

Opened up his front door, went in and closed and locked it. He went to his computer opened up the game and was shocked what he saw. There was nothing. He felt his pockets only to find that his money was gone. So he started to think. the people who followed him didn’t followed him because he stole the empty game, they followed him because they wanted to give him the money he dropped.

The boy learned a valuable lessen, that day, real life has real consequences,

He took a big breath, in and out, went to his computer grabbed his mouse and keyboard the threw, put it back and continued to play his game

Story Development

This was the same story that i have written previously for the story premises, but i just made a few changes so it makes a little bit more sense.

There was once whose life was only about playing video games, he had no interest in outdoor activity, and in fact he despised the outdoors.  So one day his mother just had about enough of him playing video games all of the time. She took all of his gaming devices and put it away where he can’t find it, and told him to go play outside.  He didn’t listen to his mother so instead of going outside he just sat near the window and staring at nature.  Because he played a lot of video games he started to see the world as a game.

He sat there for a while and finally decided to stand up and go outside.  As he opened up the door there was a stroke of sunlight that shined on his arm he didn’t liked it, but he said what the heck, so he fully opened the door and went outside. He looked around him with his eyes and mouth wide open and an expression that says what is this? The sun fully shinning on his entire body the wind blowing on his skin the grass tickling his feet.  He saw a stick and picked it up like if it was a sword and started his adventure. He started running and slamming his stick on objects, and every time he does that his imagines a score going up on top of his head. This currently resembles the tipe of games he plays rpg’s.

As he run he started to become tired and saw his stamina bar decreasing, this was a problem because of this he won’t be able to go further anymore, so he looked around him for something to eat or drink, and there in the far he saw 2 boys sitting on a bench enjoying their meal. So he ran towards them waving his mighty stick of justice scaring them off, and also leaving him water and a piece of a sandwich. So he drank the water and ate the sandwich, and looked while his stamina bar increases. It’s full, now it’s time to continue his journey. He took a huge breath and went on.

He was running and trying to find a quest, then he saw it. A bigger stick laying in someone’s backyard, so he saw this as an opportunity to upgrade his current sword. So he quietly stepped over the fence and began to sneak to the bigger stick, he got closer and closer until finally he got close enough to pick it up. As he turns around to exit the backyard he saw two angry looking dogs standing there growling at him. He was frightened with fear so then he ran towards the gate with the dogs following him, not seeing where he runs, his foot caught a branch and fell to the ground.  As he lay on the ground he saw the two angry dogs running towards him, he knew it was his end of his journey. But luck was with him.  The dogs was changed to a pole, and when the dogs was just about to kill him the chain stopped them from killing him.

He slowly stood up and began to walk home. As he walked he realized that the real world is not a game, and that the real world doesn’t have a pause or restart button, if something might happen to you.

The next day his mom gave him back all of his consoles, but surprisingly he didn’t want it back.

He went outside and started to play, but this time he considered the facts of the real world.

Story Premesis

This was our final idea of a story, we where required to write 600 word.

There was once a boy whose life was only about playing video games, he had no interest in outdoor activity, and in fact he despised the outdoors. So one day the power went off, so he stood up, walked around to figure out what the problem was, it was load shedding, so he couldn’t go back to his pc to play games.  He got bored because he had nothing to do, he stared out of the window for a while not liking it one bit what he saw. “Nature, it looks so boring” he told himself.

He didn’t saw the world like normal people, he saw the world like it was a new game he just got. And because of this he started running and slamming his stick on objects, and every time he does that his imagines a score popping up right next to him.

As he run he started to become tired and imagined a stamina bar decreasing, this was a problem because of this he can’t run fast anymore, so he looked around him for something to eat or drink, and there in the far he saw 2 boys sitting on a bench enjoying their meal. So he ran towards them waving his mighty stick of justice scaring them off, and also leaving him water and a piece of a sandwich. So he drank the water and ate the sandwich, and looked while his stamina bar increases. It’s full, now it’s time to continue his journey. He took a huge breath and went on.

He was running and trying to find a quest and then he saw it. A cop busy writing a ticket to someone that speeded so he went up to the police officer smacked him on his head with his mighty stick of justice, almost knocking up out, the speeder guy saw what happen and rode off avoiding the speed ticket. When the cop got his sight back and saw the kid he got angry cuffed him and putted him inside of his car.

The police officer talked to the kid but he dint spoke a word. So the officer dropped him off at the police station. As the kid sat there he began to realize what he have done and learn that the real world is not like a gaming world, but that didn’t stop him from having fun playing outside. His parents finally came to take him home.

The next day he sat in front of his pc, and he was deeply considering into playing games.  But there was something that stopped him for the first time ever he actually turned off his pc and went outside on his own. But this time he didn’t go crazy like hitting a police officer. He just walked down the street and enjoyed nature.

Because he hurt a lot of people with his wild imagination they literally ran away when they saw him, but that didn’t stop him from enjoying his new hobby. (The outdoors)

Short story premesis

From the 5 ideas we had to come up with a story the story i really liked was the 3 one, we where required to write a short story no less then 50 words.

There was once a boy whose life was to play video games, he had no interest in outdoor activity, and in fact he despised the outdoors. So one day the power went off, and for the first time in a long time he looked outside of his window and saw the beauty of the outdoors.

Visual and Narrative Development

We where given a assignment to read Blacksad and A Studie in scarlet, then discuss our thoughts and the themes and write an essay about it.

Blacksad

Private investigator John Blacksad is a ruthless, yet enjoyable character that digs himself into mystery and the backstories behind murders, child abductions, and nuclear secrets.

John Blacksad is falling for dangerous women or getting beaten to within an inch of his life, He will simply go through great lengths in order to salve crimes even if it costs him his life.  His stories are, simply put, unforgettable. Because with all the violence that the Blacksad series have to offer it’s mostly meant for a mature audience.

Blacksad “Somewhere in the Shadows” is an American noir crime story because we got a lot of stuff in the story that can describe the”noir genre”. The theme of this comic is mostly revenge and justice in a hard boiled criminal environment.  The art stile in this comic is excellent where it has a unique stile that differs from other comics.  Where in other comics u won’t see a lot of emotion in the characters where u most likely focus on the text rather than the subtext.  Where in Blacksad u can clearly see the characters emotion and don’t have to figure out what they are feeling.

In this story cold blooded means that you are not the kind of person that search for justice. Then you are willing to kill for what you stand for.  Which in this animal environment is pretty ironical because of the fact that there are animal characters, and because there are animal characters u get cold blooded animals like reptiles, crocodiles etc.

And in this comic we can see that the cold blooded animals are the antagonists as we can see on page 20 of the comic where the reptile says “Hairy guys like you are not very welcome here” technically threatening the hairy guy.

The story is “gloomy” because there is a lot of mystery, the main character is hard-boiled and mysterious also often a loner, a lot of revealing flash backs are seen in the story, the police inspector is the: good guys: bitter search for justice because he does the opposite of what he was told to do, a lot of violence has been seen in the story and shadowy stairwells has been seen before he gets attacked.

Conclusion

This comic with its classic noir style and unique theme, Juan Diaz Canales tells great mystery tales dealing with lost love, racism, drug addiction, jealousy, and everything that makes fantastic stories.

A study on scarlet

What is so interesting about this novel is that it doesn’t only have one theme, this novel has multiple themes, it has murder and mystery, revenge, modernism, forensic science friendship Deductive/abductive reasoning and it keeps going on.  And it is pretty interesting if you look at it, because where you get other novels that sticks to just one theme, this novel can offer more than just one theme.

Let’s discuss one of the many stories mainly “The adventure of the speckled Band”in the adventures of Sherlock Homes

This is a story that reveals the sinister plot of a greedy stepfather, DR Roylott. Who kills one of his two stepdaughters and then attempts to kill the other, Sherlock Holmes goes to the action and tries to solve the mystery before the second stepdaughter, Helen, dies.

Holmes uses his sharp powers of observation to notice small details in Helen’s dead sister’s room. He notice for example the bed that is nailed to the floor and a rope that is hanging near her bed that calls servants. He notice a vent from her room that goes to her stepfather’s room next door instead of going outside. In the end, he discovers that the’ speckled band’ is actually a trained swamp adder (a snake that is deadly) that Homes and Watsons intervention, ends up killing DR. Roylott, instead of Helen. And this is just one of the many stories that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote, and explains how Sherlock Holmes sees what other people can’t.

What I like about this novel is firstly because it is well written, suspenseful crime mystery. Conan Doyle writes the characters of Holmes and Watson beautifully, and he makes the mystery of the book almost impossible to solve for the readers, but possible for Sherlock Holmes.

This novel describes the first meeting of Holmes and Watson – there friendship is one of the most known, most incredible friendships that have ever existed in literature.  They care about each other, and will go through great length to help one another.  And it was great to see their relationship grow.

Sherlock Holmes is probably the most well known and loved fictional detective in literature.  Sherlock Holmes is a private detective who has keen powers of observation. He lives at 221b Baker Street in London. He notices things that others simply don’t and then he draws accurate conclusions about what he sees.

Homes describes himself as someone who gets in the dumps at times and doesn’t open his mouth for days on end. He experienced strong mood swings.  He also plays the violin.  But most of all, he is a master of deductive reasoning.

Doctor Watson is important to the Sherlock Holmes stories for several reasons. Firstly, he is a patient companion to Holmes, who’s brilliant and a personality that would drive anyone crazy.

Watson enjoys the challenge of solving crimes and he is a close friend to Sherlock.  Probably most importantly, Doctor Watson. Who is the narrator, provides detailed written accounts of Sherlock’s adventures for the readers to enjoy.

Doctor Watson does not have the skills that Holmes has and he is often questioning Holmes as to how he comes to his brilliant conclusions. This is a brilliant strategy because not only does Holmes explain how he does it to Doctor Watson, but he also explains to the reader how he does it.

Conclusion

This is truly one of the best novels written in literature history. The characters are memorable and amazingly written, it just draws the reader’s attention and it truly feels like you are a part of the story.

Premises Story

We where given a task writing 5 stories of no less then 25 or 50 words for each premises.  We where tough that a good way to start a story is by writing premises. This is the 5 premises that i came up with.

Story 1

He was once a master criminal, but got betrayed and shot by his gang.  Little did they know that he survived. He now walks in pursuit for revenge.

Story 2

Ever since he was a boy, he always wanted to be a hero and help people. But due to unfortunate events he became his own worst enemy.

Story 3

Once upon a time there was a gamer.  This gamer never cared about the outdoors untill one day he looked outside and saw the outdoors.

Story 4

The only thing he wanted to do was to explore the world, but because of his responsibilities he is forced to stay and help the people close to him, but because of all the pressure that is put on him, he just snapped and left to go on his adventure.

Story 5

He was once the fighter of light, but because he saw what the world truly is, he slowly became insane and started to lose the sense of what is good from evil. Because of this he didn’t see the beauty of the world and only saw the wrong.

Subtext in Characters: The Marcinelle School

Fist, let me explain what a subtext is.  Subtext is exactly what it sounds like-Something hidden beneath or behind the words.

It’s anything revealed by you and your characters without direct revelation.  Without overt disclosure.

The French is particularly good when it comes to comics.  They how to draw so the audience can see what is happening in the picture.  Without speaking a word. They also understand the line of action, body language, layout and the composition and they know how to draw them out and show it to the audience.

The BD I’m going to talk about is inspired by the Marcinelle/ Comic-Dynamic school of narrative illustration. The comic I’m going to use is Asterix the Gaul.

asterix-legionary2.jpg

Here’s a good example out of the comic asterix the Gaul, where we can see what is going on. Here we can see that Asterix is proud of himself, with the way his arms are position and the smile on his face.

He is happy and not afraid of anything. And with Obelix where he says “Good Idea Asterix!” we see that his hand gesture is strong, so it doesn’t look boring if you look at him. We can also compare his hand gestor into real life. Where in real life if you talk you move your arms and hands.

In the next frame we see a pretty blond woman passing by, where Asterix line of action is straight, but it doesn’t feel stiff in anyway.  He lifts his cap greeting her, and doesn’t get distracted. Where Obelix in the other hand widens his eyes and looks at the blond woman like it’s the most exciting thing he watched all day.

In the 3rd picture Asterix line of action changes to a c shape where he’s still walking proud with his nose in the air, a smile on his face, hand and feet widely spread.  Obelix gets distracted looking at the pretty blond woman. His line of action is straight arms close to his body and not walking as wide as Asterix. Which can indicate he is a hundred percent focused on the Blond woman.

In the last picture Obelix is still looking at the Blond woman and not seeing what is in front of him, and walks straight into the tree.  We can see exactly what is happening without reading anything.

aswe.jpg

In the next example we see that the guards got scared of Astrix and ran away, we can see that by the dust, shields and weapons that was dropped, Astrix shouts (because we see his mouth is open wide and there are straight lines surrounding his head)

“Well, come on, Do Something I surrender! I can’t hang about all day! Which he clearly doesn’t mean it at all, he was being sarcastic. We can see that by the way he is standing proud, arms on his hips and eyes closed.

Asterix-the-Gaul-film-images-c4261fe4-71fc-4bef-9947-d8ba15dc2cd.jpg

This is also a good example of a single picture that has a lot of words hidden inside.

Astrix is holding a guard’s beard and swinging him around in circles. What makes this picture so entertaining to watch is that it doesn’t look weird in any way like for example the guard’s arm bends and doesn’t show where his elbow is sitting and that the background is drawn slightly bended, which indicate that he is being swing around.

Astrix again doesn’t show a little remorse of fear. He smiles looking at the guard. We see that the other guard’s arms and back is bend forward because of shock.

They can’t believe that a tiny man is strong enough to swing a man half his size in the air while holding his beard. The old man just behind Astrix looks proud and also doesn’t show a little bit of concern what is happening, showing us that he knows Astrix is strong.

Caesar-finds-out-Cleopatra-has-teamed-with-Getafix-Asterix-and-Obelix-in-Asterix-and-Cleopatra.jpg

Here we read the slave says to the Cesar “There are some Gaul’s on the building site. Tree of them”. We see that the Cesar is concern and angry by looking at his body language.

He stands up, legs widely spread, hands on the chair, the lines around his body and we can see he is angry by looking at his facial expression. We know this is the Cesar by the why he is dressed.

White clothes leaves in his hair and red cape. The slave with his torn clothes looks afraid although we can’t see his facial expression, but we can indicate it by the way he is shacking, by looking at the slightly bent lines on his hands. If we take a look at his hand gesture we see that he is showing the direction of the Gaul’s and also warning the Cesar.

The line of action of the Cesar is straight which indicates his anger and concern of the three Gaul’s. Where the line of action on the slave is forming a c shape which shows a little bit of fear.

Animator’s Manifesto

So we had to write our own manifesto for today that’s about animation.  There are a total of 8 questions and they go as follow:

Who am I?

I am an artist and an entertainer that brings joy to people and show them the beauty of animation.  I’m also an actor because I need to act out my scenes in order to make my animation entertaining and so that it makes sense.

The world I live in

The world I live in is a cruel and unfair place.  In order for people to succeed they have to work hard and prove them self’s.  People intend to bring others down, because they fear that others will succeed and overrule them.

What I do

I am the mighty animator, I intend to show people how powerful animation really is.  I give life to characters so that people can fall in love with that character, and that thy can compare their life’s to them.

How I do it

First I get an idea for a character, then I take that character and give him a backstory.  It can be a good or a sad story, it depends on the character. The story can be a life lesson or a feeling that I once had.

Why I do it

It gives me purpose and joy in live. The satisfaction to see that other people appreciates my work is expressionless.  To see the dreams I have become a reality is just overwhelming and I know for a fact that animation can change people’s minds and give them a better life.

Where and when I do it

I do it at my home, I do it at my school/work, I do it where ever I can.  There is no “when I do it” I do it all of the time.  There is no beneficial time, when I have to work on my animation I have to do it as soon as possible, and I make sure that everything is on point.

How the world could be

The world needs to know more about animation and not see it as a kids show. They can learn something from animation, it can be a life lessen or perhaps a warning of some sort.  People should start considering animation as something important and how that can affect their lives.

How I plan to change the world

I plan to change the world by showing people what animators can do to let them know that animation is not just about being foolish, but to help and give people hope in life.  I want to encourage people to help me change the world.
